Right to remain silent

Quick! If a cop stops you on the street and asks for your ID, do you have to give it?

When you're in the security line at an airport, do you have to show ID?

Those and other questions are a matter of increased concern these days, as technology improvements and increased information sharing between law enforcement and other government agencies -- often under the auspices of the ambiguous "war on terror" -- brings us closer to the Orwellian/Dickian* world of constant surveillance and loss of privacy.

The Wired blog 27 b Stroke 6 follows these issues, checking in today with a great post on the airport security issue. Follow the link in the post where it says the Supreme Court upheld a Nevada law on showing your ID to police at any time. And know your first amendment rights.

* That's Phillip K. Dick I'm referring to. Clearly you can't use "Dickensenian" to refer to him. Perhaps "Dickene"... no.
